One of the most powerful tools against infectious diseases are effective vaccines, which train your immune system to fight off a pathogen before you’re infected. We use our understanding of the immune response to drive rational vaccine development, an approach that focuses on understanding and creating an effective immune response with a vaccine.
The Johnson and Johnson one shot COVID-19 was developed in the lab of Steering Committee Member Dan Barouch, using the same platform he developed for an HIV vaccine currently in clinical trials.
Our quick COVID-19 vaccine development was enabled by a donation from Mark and Lisa Schwartz. We also have a focus on creating a universal flu vaccine and developing vaccine platforms that can be used to quickly create vaccines for emerging pathogens.
Our efforts here span from the bench to the clinic. Beyond our COVID-19 and HIV vaccines, we have numerous other projects dedicated to driving rational vaccine development for diseases, ranging from influenza to tuberculosis.
