Clinical Research

Our research is conducted with the goal of improving patient lives and outcomes, working towards better prevention, and treatment for global infectious diseases through an understanding of the immune system. To do this, we rely on clinical samples from participants in our studies. Ranging from blood draws to mucus swabs, these samples provide insight into disease and immune system interactions in humans that can only be found by studying the disease in the body itself.

Our clinicians and physician-scientists study these valuable patient-derived samples, collaborate with hospitals, and use science as a vehicle for community good. Through these, they are able to glean insight into the nuances of the immune response, understand how it can change over the course of infection or disease, and uncover the mechanisms through which some individuals’ immune systems can control or combat diseases such as HIV or COVID-19.
